The ITE Team
“The pessimist complains about the wind. The optimist expects it to change. The leader adjusts the sails.”
- William Arthur Ward
Mashal Ali, PE
President
In 2016, Mashal Ali, a licensed civil engineer, quit her job after four years at the NYC Department of Design and Construction to take over her father’s then 50-person traffic engineering firm, Infra Tech Engineering, LLC. Her father had died suddenly, leaving her to lead both the firm and her family. She was only 26 years old. Driven, but untested as a leader, Ali instituted immediate, structural change to the firm to exploit its strengths, address its weaknesses, and prime the firm for an ever-evolving future. It worked. In less than a year she doubled the firm’s revenue, winning significant contracts with the Port Authority of New York/New Jersey (PANY/NJ), some as a prime contractor, a first for the firm at the time.
Today, she continues to grow the firm, increasing its numbers to more than 80 professionals. Leading and expanding the firm by winning work—particularly repeat contracts—she and the firm are also winning numerous project awards. In addition, she recently moved the firm’s headquarters from Staten Island to Long Island City. Engaging each and every member of the firm to optimize their development, experience, and productivity—much as she did during the critical transition to her leadership from her father’s—Ali looks to position ITE for even greater success. For many, that’s already a lifetime of achievement. But not for Ali; like her father she always wants more, always striving to improve. In addition to earning her professional engineering license in three states, her undergraduate civil engineering degree from Drexel University, and numerous professional certifications, she's also currently pursuing her engineering master's degree from Johns Hopkins University.
ABID ANSARI, PE, PTOE
Senior Vice President
Senior Vice President Abid Ansari joined Infra Tech Engineering (ITE) in October 2019. Overseeing a wide range of project design challenges—from civil structures to traffic engineering to construction management—Ansari provides careful guidance and strategic management to the varied roster of growing ITE projects. Initially, though, he specialized in traffic engineering, a subject he continues to explore with boundless energy and endless fascination.
“I’m a civil engineer with a master’s degree in structural engineering. But I ended up in traffic engineering, which I find constantly challenging and absorbing, particularly in the New York City area. When I first came to ITE I oversaw the transportation management plan on the $16 billion JFK Airport Redevelopment project for the Port Authority Traffic Engineering. That was a very demanding project and a perfect challenge, as it’s JFK Airport and you’ve got to maintain traffic and transportation 24/7 during extensive construction.”
Before joining ITE, Ansari served as the Director of Transportation for the LiRo Group, a nationally recognized professional engineering, architecture, construction management, and environmental firm. With them for 20 years, Ansari joined LiRo because of its multi-disciplinary capabilities, but quickly found himself intrigued by traffic engineering. And he’s never looked back.
“I didn’t expect to get so involved in traffic engineering. Before LiRo I did environmental engineering particularly traffic and transportation, so I had some experience with it. But once I got to LiRo I began to focus on it and help grow the practice significantly. In a lot of ways, that mirrors what we’re doing at ITE in terms of growth and expansion. And we’re in the perfect location for it. Traffic engineering throughout the New York City region always presents unique and novel challenges. And I look forward to meeting them at ITE.”
Aggregating invaluable lessons learned in the planning, design, construction, and operation of facilities for over 35 years, Ansari uses his knowledge, wisdom, and experience to help ITE deliver superlative engineering work of all kinds as a prime and a subconsultant. Looking to continue to execute exceptional work, Ansari also keeps a constant eye on growth.
“ITE has great potential. We’ve got the benefit of great people and a great company with more than 40 years of history. We’re located in one of the most dynamic, fast-growing, ever-changing, and challenging locations in the world. And we tackle challenges as opportunities for innovative solutions, conquering them with skills and ingenuity.”
